you or someone close to you is thinking of giving a precious furry friend
to someone as a gift, consider a Kitty Cottage gift certificate. The
gift certificate is valid for an adoption any time within the six months
following the gift. The certificate can also be used for gifts for the
adopted cat, such as catnip bags and other toys. If you want a wrapped gift to present with the gift certificate, you may also purchase a gift basket filled with kitty treats and toys. Holidays can be hectic and offering a pet as a surprise gift does not always result in warm fuzzy feelings all around. That's why a gift certificate wonderful choice--the gift recipient can benefit from all the love that a cat offers at a time when the pace of life is not so rushed. The notion of cats as gifts is as old as the Victorian greeting card industry, at least. As sweet and fluffy as a kitty might be, and as much as you think the recipient may adore it, we strongly discourage offering a cat as a surprise gift during the holiday season. This is because you are giving far more than one day of frolicking around with wrappings and bows. You are giving a great deal of responsibility to another person at a time of year when everyone is preoccupied and busy. Many surprise animal "gifts" end up at shelters in January, cheated of the happy ending that the giver intended. These allow the recipient to choose a Kitty Cottage cat for themselves at a quieter time when the new friends can get to know each other. We encourage you to make your intentions known to the recipient in advance, so that he or she can plan for care, feeding and supplies. In general, cats live from 10-18 years. Any loving cat owner can attest that these years are far too few in number, and the affection they feel for their animal companion multiplies exponentially with each passing year. Choosing to share your world with a cat is one of the most beautiful investments you can make. It's a celebration of life's small joys and enduring sweetness. Just make sure that when you make that investment, it is at the right time and for the right reasons. and Conditions: Gift recipients, including children, should choose
their own cat when they visit Kitty Cottage. Gift recipients must meet
our adoption criteria. If a child is receiving the gift certificate,
the head of the child's household must meet our criteria and sign the
Adoption Agreement for the cat.
