I wanted to let you know
how Andy is doing after about a 6 month adjustment
period. He's climbing into my lap as I write this
email. He seems to be quite happy. He's getting
along well now w/ my previous kitty cottage adoptees (percy
and cass). He's put on more thatn 3 lbs since I got
him (up to 11.0 lbs!). Until he becomes pudgy, I'm
going to take it as a positive sign that he's happy
and eating well since he used to be a bit
underweight. He has a funny habit--since he is on a
special diet, all three of the kitties eat the
prescription allergy science diet dry food. But Percy
and Cass are accustomed to getting Friskies wet food
for breakfast and dinner. So I give each of them a
spoonful of food in little dishes on the counter and
while they're eating, Andy gets to lick the spoon. He
hasn't had any issues from eating that small amount,
and he loves it so much. As soon as they hear the can
open, Percy and Cass run up on to the counter and Andy
runs over and stands on his hind legs to reach the
spoon. He's had a bit of an adjustment period, but as
the photo suggests, he and Percy can comfortably
cohabitate on my lap. I haven't gotten a picture of
him and Cass this close, but they are getting along
fairly well and he purrs when he's on my lap and she
comes to snuggle close. He and Cassie have worked out
an agreement about sharing the bed at night, so that's
alleviated quite a bit of the stress. He still has
some extra litterboxes around the house to make sure
he uses them, but while he will probably always have a
few issues, he's no longer having chronic litterbox
transgressions. It's been months since his last
accident. He's playing with the other kitties and
seems pretty relaxed. He and Percy wrestle around and
play, but it's clearly not too aggressive. All
around, it's been a major improvement for Andy. He
seems so much happier and definitely seems healthy,
and as always, he just loves to crawl into my
lap. I can barely sit down without him snuggling up.
He's just the sweetest little guy--granted he had a
few issues for the first few months, but it's been
well worth the effort to overcome. Thanks so much for
taking such good care of him and having such patience
with him until he could come home with me and the
other kids.
