| Hiei (formerly
Felix) Hiei's mom wrote recently to say: When my kitty I adopted from the SPCA 17 years ago passed away, I thought I would die from a broken heart. I came to Kitty Cottage just to begin to think about what it might be like to get another cat. I knew I was going on vacation so I wanted to fill out the application ahead of time, so if I was ready when I returned, it would be a smoother process. I'll never forget sitting in an armchair to fill out the application and a big orange furry monster parked in my lap. I hadn't held a cat since the day mine had passed and I had a huge dripping cry-fest right there onto his fur, and afterward my heart felt so much lighter. I never saw that cat again,-he was wearing an adoption pending collar, so I know he went home with someone. I thank him wherever he is, and know he is being as loving to his new people as he was to me that day. When I returned from my camping trip (having dreamed of kitties the whole time), I brought my husband and daughter with me back to Kitty Cottage. The place was bursting with kittens-each cuter than the next. We couldn't decide. One of the staff people pointed out a slightly older kitten that was out in the common area. This inky black imp was up on a window sill chasing a fly. As soon as I picked the kitten up, the intense purring started and I was gazing into soulful green eyes. It was love. The cat's name was Felix, but my daughter changed it to Hiei, which is a character from a japanese anime show she loves. We later discovered that Felix should have been named Felicia, but we honestly didn't care because we had the perfect cat. She is such a classic Halloween cat that a Trick or Treater thought that she was a nifty decoration in front window until she moved. She has vanquished all the mice from our house. She is both a lover and a fighter, and climbs up to sit on my shoulder while I'm on the computer. Everyday when I come home form work I call out "Where's my pretty black cat?" she responds with passionate meowing. A heartful of thanks to whoever rescued her and to Kitty Cottage. |
