Tally (formerly Tawny)

Update:

I emailed a success story about a month after I adopted Tally (formerly Tawny).  It's been over 3 years and I wanted to send an update.    Tally is an interesting cat.  When I first adopted her, I couldn't even pick her up.  Immediately the claws would come out and she would hiss and growl.  She would not even let strangers pet her.  She would claw and bite. As she grew more comfortable in her home, she became quite affectionate.  She would curl up in my lap and even let me pick her up.  I grew to love her; it took a while but it was worth it.    Several months after I adopted Tally, my brother, Mikey, was in a serious car accident, which left him paralyzed from the waist down.  I moved in to help with his care and Tally came with me.  As soon as she met my brother, they instantly connected.  Tally spent all of her time with my brother.  She slept on my brother's legs and hardly left his side.  He affectionately called her 'Tiger Claw'.  She was his guard cat and would swat at anyone who came near my brother while he was sleeping.
Sadly, my brother passed away on May 7, 2011 at the age of 27.  Tally brought him so much happiness and she was his constant companion.  She will always have a home and a family who loves her.

Tally's new family wrote:

I adopted Tally (formerly Tawny) from Kitty Cottage a little over a month ago when I moved into my new apartment.  I really wanted my other cat, Olivia to have a friend to hang around with while I'm at work because she had never been an only cat.  I work really long and odd hours and I felt bad leaving Olivia home by herself.  When Tally first arrived, she was shy and nervous.  From what I was told about her, she had been abused and it took her a while at Kitty Cottage to be comfortable enough to come up to people.  I knew that it may take her a while to adjust to life with me and Olivia but I really wanted to give her a good home.

At first, Tally and Olivia avoided each other and I didn't want to push her and Olivia into a friendship they weren't ready for.  It didn't take them very long to get used to each other.  Now, they're great buddies and they run around the house playing with each other.

While Tally was getting used to me being her new mommy, I let her come to me when she was ready.  At first, she would rub up against my legs but didn't want to be petted too much and would prance away when I leaned down to pet her.  She started sleeping on the foot of my bed but would jump off when I woke up.  Now, there are mornings when I wake up to Tally trying to nuzzle under my arm.

I'm so glad that I adopted Tally.  She's healthy and happy.  She lives a life of leisure.  Her sole mission is just to be comfortable, whether she's curled up in my bed, on my oversized couch, or in the window sill sunning herself.  I enjoy spending time with her and I'm very happy that I was able to give her a good home.  She and Olivia are both young and I plan on having them for a long time to come.
