Cat Care Library: Two Cats Are Better

A cat that has a companion is less likely to gain weight, because it plays more.

With two or more cats, they're less likely to become bored and scratch the furniture.

Cats living with other cats remain more youthful and playful in their senior years.

Did you know that in Switzerland, an anti-cruelty law was passed requiring people buying dogs and cats to buy two instead of just one? The lawmakers recognized it is the nature of an animal to have company of his own kind.

When you have two or more cats, you can enjoy the true social nature of cats and their relationships to each other.

Cats need stimulation during the day, just like you do. If you work long hours or travel a lot, two or more cats keep each other company and are more tranquil in your absence.

The work required to care for two cats is not much more than the work for one.

A cat that has a playmate tends to be more socially well-adjusted, and less likely to have behavior problems like shyness, biting, hissing and being afraid of strangers.

Having a second cat does not require a larger apartment or house.

A cat adopted with a playmate is less likely to be returned to an animal shelter for behavior problems.

It's simply true... two cats are better than one!
